Bhagirath Oil & Refineries operates an integrated sugar business across the entire value chain from sugar cane and beet plantations to the sweeteners aisle in supermarkets. In between, we operate sugar mills, cogeneration plants, ethanol distilleries, and sugar refineries, linking key origins and destinations through a market-leading merchandising team headquartered in Ahmedabad Gujarat India
The milling of sugar cane produces raw sugar and also by-products such as bagasse and molasses.
Our mills generate their own electricity by burning bagasse – the fibrous material left over from crushed sugar cane or sugar beet. Excess electricity is either used internally or sold to the national power grid.
Molasses, another by-product of sugar milling, is used as an additive for livestock feed and to produce ethanol.
The refining of sugar produces food-grade products such as white sugar, brown sugar, caster sugar and syrups. The sugar refining process involves the removal of impurities and colour from raw sugar and the further refinement of sugar crystals.
